Area Stage Company’s rendition of Beauty and the Beast uses the entire space rather than a single stage to draw audience members in.

The audience-immersive version of Disney’s “tale as old as time” classic Beauty and the Beast, which Area Stage Company (ASC) won multiple Carbonell and Silver Palm awards, including “Best Production of a Musical,” will be performed again at the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Carnival Studio Theatre on February 10th-26th.

Beauty And The Beast

Area Stage Company is pleased to present this immersive, critically acclaimed production, which critics call “a visionary, urgent deconstruction,” again after a sold-out run at the Arsht Center in October 2022. This one-of-a-kind reimagining transports audiences into the Beast’s castle, where they become completely engrossed in the action, which takes place throughout the theater rather than on a single stage. During “Be Our Guest,” audience members are invited to dine with Belle and raise their glasses with Lefou in the tavern, respectively, for an unforgettable Disney experience.

Coordinating this reconsidered musical creation is Giancarlo Rodaz, fresh from a Carbonell Award for Outstanding Direction of Musical for Beauty and the Beast.

Immersive Experience Of Beauty And The Beast

Beauty And The Beast

Director Rodaz explained how this is the first time a company has approached Beauty and the Beast in this way. He explained how the show is difficult to produce on its own, and doing it in an immersive way is a completely different challenge because they had to reimagine the style from scratch.

Immersive theater has been around for a very long time, but rarely has a full-length musical of this size been accomplished, where everything has to look good from every angle the audience can see it.

Nelson Rodriguez, a new lead, will play The Beast, and Rachel Marie, a new lead, will play Belle. Frank Montoto and John Mazuelos return as Gaston and Lumiere, Katie Duerr as Mrs. Potts, Luke Surretsky as Chip, Greta Hicks as Babette, and Imran Hylton, who won the Carbonell Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for his dual roles as Maurice and Madame De La Grand Bouche.
