And for some, the objective will be particularly focused on a single feature: the chin double. The desire to get rid of a double chin, also known as submental fat, is common. Even though having a double chin isn’t a big deal right now, many people don’t like it because it’s more obvious and hard to hide than extra fat on other parts of the body. “A double chin is just a bit of fat in one specific spot, and it’s common because there are so many causes, often working together,” explained Jennifer Wong. “It’s normal for skin to lose it’s elasticity as we age. This can cause some sagging, particularly in the area under the chin, which then contributes to the effect of having a double chin.”
When a double chin appears, weight gain is frequently implicated. It is possible that it is a factor, but it is not always the sole cause. Double chins are a trait that is thought to run in families and is linked to some genetic component, although no single gene has ever been identified as the cause. As a result, it’s possible that some people are more likely to have a double chin.

Good dietary and workout habits are recommended for just about everyone, just so long as you don’t have any health conditions that would prevent you from doing so. The following should be emphasized in a healthy diet: vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and dairy products without or low in fat Seafood, lean meats, poultry, and legumes. Added sugars, sodium, saturated fats, trans fats, and cholesterol should be avoided within reason.
The majority of weight loss comes from cutting calories, but staying at a healthy weight requires regular exercise. 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobics or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobics should be included in a weekly workout. The two can be combined to provide some variety.
“In addition to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight,” said Jennifer Wong. “There are a few easy exercises that can be done at home in just a few minutes each day to really work the under-chin area.”
These entire routines can be completed in less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee, and each of these exercises can be performed in sets of five or ten:
Tongue Stretching: When sitting or standing, keep your back straight and curl your tongue toward the nose. After holding this position for ten seconds, release.
Looking Upwards: Press the tongue against the roof of the mouth after tilting the head back to look up at the ceiling. After holding this position for ten seconds, release.
Kissing The Sky: Puff the lips and tilt the head back toward the ceiling once more. Release once more.
Exercise Ball: Press down with the chin against a small exercise ball that is about 10 inches in diameter against the top of the sternum, then release.
“Of course, there are several treatments that can be performed by a licensed professional to help people along their way toward looking and feeling great,” said Jennifer Wong.
A special substance is injected under the chin to dissolve excess fat during this procedure. One such compound that is frequently used is Kybella, which is identical to a chemical that the body normally produces.
A laser or suction are used in this procedure to remove fat directly from the area below the chin.
This is a non-invasive procedure for people who want to avoid needles and incisions. Under the skin, fat cells are frozen by a special device, where they eventually break down and leave the body.
